Bluff

Bluffing is a poker strategy that may prove to be profitable if done right. Bluffing is a bet or raise with an inferior hand that will win the pot if the players on the field fold to your action.

Observant players will consider your action, bluffing frequency and hand history when deciding to call or fold to your bluff.

If you are playing with loose players or calling station, bluffing can be ineffective. Thus, to be able to properly utilize a poker strategy such as bluffing, you have to analyze you opponents first.

When you think that players in the field will consider your betting pattern when they make action after you, then, you can bluff effectively.

Now, let us move on to the types of bluff and discuss when you can effectively use them.

Pure Bluff

Pure bluff is also known as stone-cold bluff. This is an action such as bet or raise with an inferior hand. This hand has no way of improving but may win the pot if all the players in the field fold to your action.

Pure bluff can only be effective if done infrequently. Likewise, assessing your opponents will help you perform this type of bluff profitably. Playing against a calling station will never make bluff profitable.

However, if you will learn how to us tells and tilts of players in the field and combining this with your assessment of the other players in the field, then it is a possibility that you may prove bluffing can be profitable.

Semi Bluff

Semi bluff is a bet or raise done by a player who can be drawing to improve his hand. This poker strategy may be effective in multiple betting rounds game. The player who does semi bluff has an inferior hand during this round but he is drawing to make it better.

He will therefore need to bluff, otherwise known as a semi bluff, to get a chance for another card. If his hand improves then he can bet and raise again. This time he may be a favorite to win.

He may force some players to fold with his inferior hand when he semi bluffs but if players call on his bluff and he draws to the card that improves his card then, he his bluff is effective.

In the case where the card that arrives did not improve his card, in the remaining rounds, should there still be, then, he can semi bluff again. Hoping this will improve his hand.

As mentioned, bluffing is a poker strategy that may prove profitable if done right. Bluffing against calling stations may not be effective. On the other hand, if you bluff infrequently and in random, it will make players unable to detect if you are bluffing or not.

Thus, before you make your bluff or decide when to bluff, you have to assess the other players on the field. If you find several observant players, you may use bluffing effectively.

Finally, because poker proves to be profitable with some ounce of deception, strategy and luck, you have to learn to use all of these factors to your advantage during the game. Assessing your opponents including their tells and when they are on a tilt will help you play better.
