Tom “Durrr” Dwan is a twenty-three year old American Poker Professional. He has played several online and off-line poker tournaments and to date still hold the largest pot winning record of GSN’s High Stakes Poker. He won a total of $919,600 against Barry Greenstein that made him the highest winner.
This young poker professional is a full time poker professional having dropped off from Boston University to pursue this interest.
Excitement for him being a finalist for the 2009 Poker Hall of Fame however went to a halt when a statement was released by the Poker Hall of Fame Governing Council.
The statement reads as follows:
“With due respect to Mr. Dwan, one of the game’s most exciting young players, he does not currently meet the criteria for Hall of Fame selection.”
The statement further states that “We wish him well and expect he will again be considered once he has ‘stood the test of time”.
Playing with a $50 bankroll when he was 17 years old still did not make him qualify for a test of time criteria.
To help you appreciate the Hall of Fame selection process, here are the considerations being looked at.
• A player must have played poker against acknowledged top competitions
• Played for high stakes
• Played consistently well, gaining the respect of peers
• Stood the test of time
• For non-players, contributed to the overall growth and success of the game of poker with indelible positive and lasting results.
Mr. Dwan surely met most of the requirements but of course, the test of time consideration may not be met as yet.
Because of this dropping of Tom “Durrr” Dwan from the Hall of Fame race, the remaining finalists are:
1. Barry Greenstein
2. Dan Harrington
3. Phil Ivey
4. Tom McEvoy
5. Erik Seidel
6. Mike Sexton
7. Men “The Master” Nguyen
8. Daniel Negreanu
The people who will decide the outcome of the 2009 Poker Hall of Fame will be the 15 living Hall of Fame members and 15-member media panel.
They will have to cast votes for up to three candidates. The player or players that will receive 75% yes votes will make their way into the Hall of Fame.
Winners will be announced during a special dinner ceremony on November 7 at the Rio Hotel. This is during the break of the 2009 WSOP Main Event Final Table.
The dropping of Tom Dwan from the race should not frustrate anyone. Yes, he will not make it to this year’s Hall of Fame but in the coming years, this young and dynamic poker professional is sure to grace the Hall of Fame.
For the online poker players, this is a sure proof that playing serious poker even within the confines of your home can have good rewards.
Do you want to be the next Tom Dwan? It is not yet late to start now, join satellite poker tournaments and in the future, you will be one of the exciting poker professional novice players and other professional will be looked at.
