World Poker Entertainment, a division of St. Paul based World Poker Store partners with The Miracles of Mitch Foundation and Starkey Hearing Foundation to help children suffering from cancer and hearing loss. In an event that will marry the two most loved activities such as ice fishing and Texas Hold’em Poker, this one of a kind event will take place on January 30, 2010 entitled Polar Poker Challenge.
This icy activity where participants will go on an ice fishing expedition at the Lord Fletcher’s in Spring Park, Minnesota. After which, the ice fishing awards banquet will be glamorized by the magnificence of Texas Hold’em Poker plus a lot more icy fun activities will ensue.
This festivity is a fundraising project that will help provide support for families of children battling with cancer and hearing loss in Minnesota.
The event is going to be limited to about 500 participants because the organizers would like an intimate experience for everyone.
Aside from ice fishing and poker tournament that will follow continuously until ice fishing awards banquet, other activities such as broomball, curling, snow ball target, ice sculpture and many more events will be witnessed by the participants and their families.
The schedule of the activities will be as follows:
At 7:00 a.m. of Saturday, January 30, ice fishing participants will be allowed to go fishing at the bay until 11:00 a.m. After which they will submit their morning catch to the tournament organizers and will be judged at 12:00 p.m.
Food will be served to them and the poker tournament will happen. The poker tournament will continue and all participants are invited to join the free poker tournament.
In the ice fishing awards banquet, there will be different awards such as biggest fish, most fish and a lot more.
There will also be raffle prizes that will be drawn during the entire day.
It may be exciting to know that the awards banquet and the Texas Hold’em tournament will be held right on the ice inside two heated tents located directly at the back of Lord Fletcher’s.
As mentioned, Polar Village games will run throughout the day that will be open for participants and their guests. It may be wonderful to know that celebrities in different fields are expected to grace the occasion.
The organizers
The Miracle of Mitch Foundation as you may know is inspired by a 9-year-old cancer victim himself, Mitch Chepokas, whose father continued to help children stricken of cancer even after his son died in 2003.
The Starkey hearing Foundation on the other hand is founded by William Austin whose mission is to deliver hearing aides to people suffering from hearing loss in various countries.
World Poker Entertainment, on their part, is a company that owns and operates bar poker leagues in upscale communities including a Las Vegas Style entertainment facility in China. Their operations span several countries like Europe, Canada, Mexico, China and the U.S.
Thus, this partnership is sure to provide the support that these sick children needs and in a festivity that will remind each participant of this experience even in the years that will come.
