Manila Poker or Seven-Up is a popular variation of Texas Hold’em played in Australian casinos. This is played with stripped poker. You will play this game with only 32 cards; this is because all cards below 7 are removed from the deck.
This is a variant of Texas Hold’em but played with stripped deck.
Number of Players for Manila Poker
This is a popular casino game and thus any number of players can play the game. However, 2 to 8 players will be good to play this game.
Rules of Manila Poker
• This is a Texas Hold’em game and thus blinds are involved in this game.
• Players are dealt two hole cards and five community cards are dealt in the middle of the board. The dealer will draw the board cards one at a time.
• The deck in this game is only 32 pieces with 7 to 2 cards being stripped from the deck.
• There is a variant of Manila Poker where players are dealt three hole cards rather than two. The three hole card variation will have two options in the discard of the third card. The third card may be discarded at anytime during the game or held until the showdown. However, it remains that the final 5-card hand will only be composed of two hole cards and three board cards.
• Players will need to form their 5-card hand with exactly 2 of their hole cards plus exactly three board cards.
• Aces play a high card in Manila Poker.
• Because of the cards being stripped, a flush beats a full house.
• There will be five betting rounds after each community card is drawn.
• The best 5-card hand wins the pot.
Here is how Manila Poker is played.
1. The dealer shuffles the cards. The player on his left will cut the deck somewhere in the middle. In some cases, the dealer cuts the deck.
2. The small blind and the big blind now post the blinds or the forced bets. Just like in a Texas Hold’em game, the small blind posts half of the minimum bet and the big blind post the minimum bet.
3. The dealer now deals two hole cards to each player and one community card. The betting will start after the first community card is dealt.
4. The betting starts from the player seated on the left of the big blind. This player is called under the gun because he will have to start the betting without any information on the cards of the other players. His action may be to check (bet zero but stay in the game), call or see (bet the same amount as the big blind), raise (increase the betting) or fold (withdraw from the game). It is possible that this player will fold if he does not have a good hole card or starting hand. This is because in Manila Poker, a player will need to use his two hole cards and combining them with exactly three of the community card to make their hand.
5. The dealer now deals the second community card followed by the second round of betting.
6. After the second round of betting, the dealer will now deal the third community card followed by another round of betting.
7. Then, the fourth community card will be dealt and the fourth community card will happen.
8. The final community card will now be dealt followed by the last betting round.
9. Then, the showdown will happen if there are more than 2 active players on the field. The final 5-card hand will be the players’ two hole cards and combining them with exactly three cards from the board.
This is how Manila Poker is played. Again, this is a very popular Australian Casino version of Texas Hold’em.
The next cool poker variation we will discuss will be Chicago Hi/Lo.
