Playing Card Nicknames

In poker, playing cards are given individual nicknames or collective nicknames depending on the poker variant being played. If you are facing some traditional or poker professionals, they may use these playing card nicknames. Thus, when players’ tells give out these nicknames, knowing which card they refer to will give you enough information to do well on the game.

Thus, we will discuss herewith the playing card nicknames for both the individual cards and collective card nicknames.

Single Card Nicknames

Ace or A – As-nas, One Spot, Eyes, Death Card

King or K – Knight, Cowboy, Monarch, Alexander

Queen or Q – Cowgirl, Lady, Bitch, Dyke

Jack or J – Boy, Jackson, VanderJack, Jackal, One-eyed Jacks

Ten or 10 or T – Dime, Big Casino, Sawbuck

Nine or 9 – Neener, Niner, Curse of Scotland

Eight or 8 – Fat Lady, Snowman, Ocho

Seven or 7 – Walking Stick, Mullet, Beer Card, Candy Cane

Six or 6 – Sex, Sax, A Boot, Loyalty at the Risk of Death

Five or 5 – Nickel, Five Spot, Pedro

Four or 4 – Four Spot, Sailboat, One-legged Ace

Three or 3 – Trey, Crab

Two or 2 – Deuce, Swan, Dewey, The Curse of Mexico

Collective Card Nicknames

One-eyed Royals is a nickname given to Jacks of Spades, Jack of Hearts and Kind of Diamonds. This is because there is only one eye showing in these cards as compared to other royal cards where the face shows two eyes.

Royal Cards or Picture Cards – These are face cards such as Jacks, Queens and Kings.

Broadway Cards or Honor Cards – These are the Tens, Jacks, Queens, Kings and Aces.

Wheel Cards or Bicycle – These are A, 2, 3, 4, 5 also lowball.

Ace High

AA – Alan Alda, Albert Anastasia, American Airlines, Eyes, Sharp Tops
