Professional Poker Tour or PPT is the first professional poker league. It is limited to players who have established themselves on the World Poker Tour (WPT), World Series of Poker (WSOP) and other major poker events.
Professional Poker Tour is a series of televised events where there is no buy-in to enter.
This is an invitational event with entry ranging from one year, two years or three years.
It was televised on the Travel Channel starting in July 5, 2006.
The qualifiers in the Professional Poker Tour vary in years of entry based on their performance in various poker events including WPT and WSOP.
Three-Year Tour Qualifiers
• The players on this invitational tournament are players from major events such as (World Poker Tour) WPT winners.
• All previous winners of the World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Events are likewise allowed free entry to Professional Poker Tour for three years.
• Top ten players on the CardPlayer Player of the Year list and Phil Hellmuth, Jr. Champion of the Year Games.
• Members of the World Poker Tour (WPT) Walk of Fame and Poker Hall of Fame
Two-Year Tour Qualifiers
• Fourth to Sixth place finishers on the WPT Championships
• Fourth to the Sixth places in the WSOP main Event
One, Two, Three Year Tour Qualifiers
• Depending on the entry provided by the Professional Poker Tour, the PPT Advisory Committee may select poker players from the poker professional pool.
• Top ten places on Poker Europa likewise wins entry to the Professional Poker Tour (PPT)
• WPT Commentators are likewise provided entry to this tour.
However, while there is such a good potential for the Professional Poker Tour, they were unable to find a host network to televise the games in 2007.
There were several games scheduled but all of them were postponed and eventually cancelled. Thus, because there is a good concept and a good game awaiting professional poker players, the games were reintegrated into the World Poker Tour starting the 2007-2008 games.
