Here is how Omaha Hold’em Poker is played.

1. The dealer will shuffle the cards. The person on his left will cut the card deck.

2. The small blind and the big blind now post the forced bet or the blinds.

3. The dealer will now deal the four hole cards or pocket cards to each player.

4. The first round of betting will now happen with the player seated on the left of the big blind.

5. Betting will end after the big blind has made his action.

6. Action on the game will either be to check, call, raise or fold.

7. After this round of betting, the dealer will now place three cards in the middle of the table face up. They are called the flop. After the flop, the players can more or less gage the possibility of developing a good poker hand.

8. The second betting round will now happen. There may be players who will fold (withdraw from the game), call (bet the same amount as the previous player did) or raise (increase the bet amount). The action again starts from the player seated at the left of the big blind. The betting will go clockwise until the big blind have made his action.

9. The fourth community card called the turn will now be dealt. Another betting round will happen.

10. After the third betting round, the dealer will now draw the fifth community card called the river.

11. After this, another betting round will happen.

12. The showdown will end the game with the remaining active players showing their hand. The best hand will win the pot.

Remember that only two of the pocket cards can be used and three from the community cards. This is where Omaha Hold’em differs from Texas Hold’em. In Texas Hold’em you may end up with a poker hand using only the five community cards. This will however end up splitting of pot among the active players. Likewise, you cannot use all the four pocket cards to develop your poker hand.

You will use only two from the pocket cards and three from the community cards.
